Prior search
Before you spend on the application, the unit compares your name with what already exists in the INPI database and tells you where the risk is.
What you need to know
The search on the INPI website shows proceedings, not conclusions. Any trademark can be filed — even one identical to an existing registration — and the application is only refused months later, at examination, with the fee already paid. A prior search exists to anticipate that answer.
The analysis cross-checks the intended name against earlier trademarks in the classes of your field, assesses graphic and phonetic similarity and considers conflicts in neighbouring segments. The result is an objective opinion: go ahead, adjust the name or choose another.
How it works
You give the name and your field of business. The unit in your region tells you right away whether there is an obvious obstacle.
The team checks earlier trademarks, applicable classes and conflict risks that a simple search does not show.
You receive the picture in writing and decide: file, adjust the name or consider another option.
