In Brazil copyright protection arises with the creation of the work, without depending on registration. What registration does is produce evidence: a certain date and an official deposit of the work, enforceable against anyone who later claims authorship.
The registering body depends on the nature of the work — the National Library for texts and music, the School of Fine Arts for visual arts, professional councils for technical projects.
